Lake Granbury Art Association goes national | Fall Art Show to feature eight out-of-state artists

For the first time in its more than 30 years of hosting two art shows a year, the Lake Granbury Art Association will have non-Texan art pieces on display for its Juried Fall Art Show.

Open now through Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Shanley House Gallery Center for the Arts, 224 N. Travis St., the gallery will showcase 52 art pieces in a “beautiful, quality show,” according to Fall Show Chairman Vickie Guthrie.

“This year’s fall show is a big step-up for Lake Granbury Art Association,” she said. “We’re now on the national level and received entries from Hawaii, Florida, Colorado and other states as well. From the 227 entries, show judge Kathy Tate selected 52 pieces. It’s a well-balanced show that will appeal to everyone.”

The reason for the out-of-state entries is because of the LGAA’s use of the website, callforentry.com, which has a massive database of artists who use the online art submission site.

Out of the 52 art pieces selected, eight were created by artists out-of-state, 15 were from Granbury and 29 were from other areas of Texas.

The art show will feature a wide variety of mediums like sculpture, paintings, drawings in oil, pastels, pen and ink, glass, metal, wood and leather.

“As far as what to expect, there's everything from realism and impressionism as well as abstract,” Guthrie said. “There's different sizes. We have smaller pieces, you know, one piece is three feet by three feet. It's just unbelievably different and diverse.”

The reception/awards ceremony is open to the public, and will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Shanley House Gallery.

Artists, visitors and art patrons will be in attendance.

The awards ceremony is slated to begin around 7 p.m. The Best of Show award will be provided by the Charles Inge Memorial Foundation. Other awards include: four excellence awards, four achievement awards, four merit awards, four honorable mention awards and one juror’s award. More than $5,500 will be given out as prize money.

The gallery will be open for guests Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday 1-4 p.m.
