FIRE ACADEMY GRADUATES: Sixteen graduates of Hood County Fire Academy's Fire Academy recently received their certificates. It was one of the largest classes in recent years, according to their instructor, Training Lt. Diego Guerrero.
The 2022 spring class of graduates from the Hood County Fire Academy was one of the largest in recent years, according to their instructor, Training Lt. Diego Guerrero.
There were 16 graduates who recently completed the training, which features 14 instruction sessions on Saturdays over a span of 16 weeks.
While some volunteer fire departments have had struggles in attracting enough new recruits, this larger class is a positive turn for the Granbury VFD.
“This class was the largest class we’ve had in several years. We are blessed to have the amount of volunteers willing to help, in a time when finding dedicated volunteers is difficult,” Guerrero told the Hood County News.
The spring 2022 academy graduates were: Allisyn King, Gary Spears, Kori Bullington, Shane Pippin, Jacob Weis, Dakota Hoes, Eithan Merrick, Isom Williams, Gabriel Woodward, David Custer, Zachary Massey, Jeff Mastick, Bryce Brown, Trevor Hutsell, Brayden Coan, and Brandon Marriott.
In addition to all the necessary basic firefighting skills, the trainees learned about various types of building construction that they may encounter, and also received instruction on vehicle extrication to earn their firefighter certificate, Guerrero noted.
Hood County has two fire academy classes each year. The fall 2022 training session is set to start in early August. Anyone interested in finding out how to register for the fire academy training should contact the GVFD’s Station No. 1 by calling 817-579-1111.
