Lipan ISD bond election Saturday

Posted

Lipan voters will decide a $9.43 million bond proposal Saturday to fund new classrooms and renovations.

Voting will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Lipan Church of Christ Fellowship Hall, 119 N. Caddo St.

The proposed projects include:

* New metal fabrication shop and classroom space

* Renovation of ag shop and classroom

* High school and elementary school classrooms that will also serve as storm shelters. (Storm shelters are now required for all new construction in academic areas.)

* Districtwide renovations

“According to a recent demographic study we will grow by 150 over the next 10 years, and we are planning for that,” Lipan ISD Superintendent Ralph Carter said. “This year our enrollment is down 5%, but we expect those students to return. Enrollment is down 5 to 7 % across the state; the demographer said it was COVID.”

If the proposal is approved the tax rate would increase about 10 cents, from $1.26 to $1.36 per $100 valuation. Annual Lipan school taxes on a $100,000 home would increase $75; $200,000, $175; and $300,000, $275. There would be no tax increase on homesteads for those having an age 65 and over exemption.
