Need an afternoon to unwind?

Then, head on over to D’Vine Wine for a relaxing drink on Thursday, March 23, to “Sip & Support” the Opera Guild of Granbury for its annual fundraiser from 4-8 p.m.

For the past several years, the Opera Guild of Granbury has held its Sip and Support fundraiser each spring to support the Opera House and its allied arts by repairing the Opera House building and by donating scholarships to the Granbury Theatre Academy.

“Next month, we're doing eight scholarships for the kids, and this helps us do those scholarships, and it helps us redo the front of the Granbury Opera House that we just did in December,” said Gari Wise, vice president of the Opera Guild of Granbury and director of fundraising. “It had some rotted wood, and we had it all redone around the windows and painted. We spend our funds pretty wisely, and these fundraisers help that.”

Wise said the Opera Guild of Granbury has already pledged $30,000 for the purchase of 80 seats in rows A through D of the Opera House for necessary upgrades and repairs.

“It may take us five years, but they need to be done,” Wise said. “That's our purpose is to keep the Opera House in its current condition where it's always welcoming and always updated.”

During the event, Bridge Street will be closed for street dancing, as B-Ray and the Humans will perform from 4-7 p.m.

Performing everything from country, Christian, blues, rock, and R&B to classics such as Wilson Pickett’s “Mustang Sally,” B-Ray and the Humans will have songs for everyone to enjoy.

“If you close your eyes and listen to him when he sings, (B-Ray) can imitate ‘Satchmo’ (Louie Armstrong) perfectly,” Wise said.

Guests are also asked to bring their own chairs for the live performance to ensure plenty of open seating for all.

After B-Ray and the Humans’ performance, drawings will take place for wine-related baskets and door prizes, varying in price from $50 to $300.

"Various vendors here in town have donated gift certificates, like Ami’s Art Glass Boutique, Pat Boyles, has donated a cross on a stand,” Wise said. “Some of them will have wine glasses, cheese and crackers, a gift certificate to Granbury Live, and there will probably be some food certificates in some of them."

Tickets for the door prizes and baskets are $5 each or five for $20. Drawings start at 7 p.m. and ticket holders do not need to be present to win.

Prepurchase tickets can be bought by contacting Sally Adamson at 469-387-3477 or by email at sadamson97@yahoo.com.

Vendors for the event will include Opulenza Jewelry, Southern Reflection Kettle Korn, Studio “C” Crafts and T’s, and Harmony Massage Chair.

Caylor Creek Boutique will also be open late for attendees’ shopping pleasure.

Light appetizers of finger sandwiches, chips and dip, fruit and veggie trays, and desserts will be provided by Opera Guild members and will be served inside D’Vine Wine.

Guests are also asked to purchase their wine or drinks of choice from D’Vine Wine because 20% of all sales from that evening will go toward the fundraiser.

Wise said she is looking forward to helping the Opera Guild of Granbury grow and “build up their reputation as a charitable organization.”

“For us, it's really appreciated,” Wise added. “We only do three fundraisers a year, so these are things I know that we can do and put our effort in and walk away with a decent return to do what we need to do for the scholarships and for the repairs at the Opera House.”

Future fundraisers for the Opera Guild of Granbury include Chow Down for Charity on Sept. 6 and Bingo Night on Oct. 12.
