Mike Brown Ford to participate in training program for soldiers

Mike Brown Ford in Granbury will be participating in a new Ford Motor Company program providing free training for U.S. Army soldiers and helping to place them in jobs at Ford dealerships across Texas.

The program, dubbed Ford Technicians of Tomorrow, is offering the free training in a 16-week accelerated technical program plus a starter tool kit for each graduate. Texas Ford Dealers are partnering with Ford, Workforce Solutions of Central Texas and the Army to help soldiers as they transition out of the military and into the workforce.

A Ford Motor Compnay news release stated, “Initially, three dealerships are participating in the new program this fall, sponsoring eight soldiers. In the spring, Mike Brown Ford in Granbury will be sponsoring additional service men and women as the program grows. In all, 90 soldiers will complete the program in the first year and earn jobs at Texas Ford Dealers at competitive pay.”

Mike Brown Ford Service Manager Jimmy Ogle said that the program is “huge for us” because there is currently a shortage of qualified and trained vehicle technicians.

“It’s almost impossible to get technicians these days,” Ogle said. “We jumped at the opportunity. With the accelerated certifications, they’re going to have to be certified on three to four areas that (normally) could take three to four years.”

The news release added, “Texas Ford Dealers enrolled in the program will interview candidates for sponsorship and employment. Each dealer will invest thousands for the soldier’s education.”
