Kindergarteners at STEAM Academy at Mambrino sang farewell during their graduation ceremony on May 22.

“It’s been a good year” for the STEAM Academy at Mambrino kindergarten class.
Mambrino held its annual kindergarten graduation on Monday evening— but this year's ceremony came with a special twist.
“In years past, we've had to do (kindergarten graduation) a little differently because of COVID,” Mambrino Assistant Principal Molly Whisenhunt said. “This year, we combined the kindergarten music program with graduation, so we were able to invite more than just parents; they could bring extended family as well."
A total of 137 kindergarten students from eight classes graduated from Mambrino on May 22, with each class alternating in reciting poems and singing songs for the audience.
“Last year, we had several different (graduations), and so it's really cool to be able to see it as like a whole program and watching the kindergarteners graduate together,” Whisenhunt said. “It brings the whole family together.”
Kindergarten teachers Hannah Danley, Sharon Daugherty, Karisa Glenn, Candice Jenkins, Shanti Micheau, Tami Miller, Natalie Overstreet, and Tracie Reed took turns announcing the graduates of their class, along with their age, what they want to be when they grow up, and where they want to live as an adult.
Several boys said they wanted to become police officers, cowboys, YouTubers, and Batman in the future, while the girls revealed their dreams of becoming ballerinas, gymnasts, fashion designers, and even a unicorn— because why not?
Many graduates are happy right where they live now in Granbury, while others had higher aspirations of living in Disneyland, Hawaii, a hotel, or in a mansion.
"There is never a dull moment with our kindergarten class this year,” Mambrino Assistant Principal Jessica Johnson said. “They are so full of excitement and energy.”
“They are a really energetic and happy group, and they get along really, really well,” Whisenhunt added. “They kind of feel like a family, so I'm just really excited to see them grow the next five years at Mambrino and see what they accomplish.”
