Nervous Nelson

Posted

Matt Nelson had a logical reason why his legs were shaking most of the day.

It was the day he would propose to M the girl of his dreams.

Madie Smith’s mother Linda Smith knew of the arrangement, but not Madie.

“The surprise popping of the question, and party afterwards, was carefully arranged,” Smith said. “With any luck it would go off as planned around 3 p.m. (Saturday, Sept. 5).”

Nelson asked his sweetheart, Madie Smith, to escort him to the boat dock at her parents’ lake house in Western Hills Harbor. The sun shone as they sat on the cushion-covered porch swing overlooking the lake.

“As they sat chatting, the sun went behind the clouds, and the winds picked up to a forceful gust,” Madie’s mother related. “The sky turned a dark gray, and the waves strongly lapped on the dock near their bare feet.”

Madie’s mother, father, brother and two good friends watched from the large picture windows at the house, taking pictures and videos “and praying Matt didn’t drop the ring in the lake,” Smith said.

Matt got down on one knee, and as the couple swayed in the 50 mph wind, Matt managed to get the ring on Madie’s finger, asked the question and, of course, she said YES!

The couple were greeted inside with popping of champagne and hugs all around.

Matt thoughtfully planned Madie’s friends to come celebrate Saturday night, his parents and brother on Sunday afternoon, and his friends on Sunday night, to limit the number of guests present at one time, due to COVID-19.

Two hundred and sixtyfour days till the big day!
