Aging members of the Hood County Livestock Raisers Association are looking for help.
The work they put in for the annual youth stock show is long and hard, and usually thankless.
One of the members who’s retiring is concerned about the stock show’s future if new people don’t step up and pitch in.
Livestock raisers president Lonnie Johnson doesn’t necessarily agree with that, but did say, “We do need younger members.”
This week is the 64th running of the county stock show, starting back in 1955. The stock show has seen enormous growth over the years. This year’s show has drawn over 1,000 entries, which includes animals and family living projects such as food and arts and crafts.
The four-day event concludes today with the annual auction at 1 p.m. in the heated Courts Cleveland Show Barn on the Granbury Reunion Grounds.
A medallion steak dinner will be fed to the buyers from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in the expanded exhibit hall on the grounds. Meal tickets will be sold for $10 to the general public. Champion winners so far this week:
