Saturday, April 13, 2019

The Granbury Optimist Club named GHS seniors Jake Holbrook and Emily Tipton as its Young Texan and Young Tex-Anne for April 2019.

Holbrook is the son of Robert and Denise Holbrook, and is a star golfer on the Granbury team. He has made first team All-District twice, was the district champion in his junior and seniors years, was first team All-Region all three years and first team All-State in his sophomore and junior years. He is a nominee for the LaDanian Tomlinson North Texas Athlete of the Year Award.

Outside of golf, Holbrook is active in Bible study at Lakeside Baptist Church.

He is committed to play golf at the University of Oklahoma in college.

Tipton is the daughter of David and Wendy Tipton, and has been a two-year drum major in the GHS Pirate Band. She’s a member of the National Honor Society and POWER SET, and is the team president of the UIL Academic Social Studies Team.

She received the Outstanding Marcher Award and attended the Granbury ISD Education Foundation Academic Recognition Banquet for top 25 students. She volunteers for Teen Court, Hood County Christmas for Children and at multiple percussion competitions, and is active in her church. She also works as a barista at Starbucks.

Tipton will also attend the University of Oklahoma, and will major in astronomy while playing in the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band.

Tipton and Holbrook were honored at the Optimists’ club breakfast on April 9.
