Portrait of Walton will hang at justice center

A painted portrait of former longtime 355th District Court Judge Ralph H. Walton Jr. will hang at the justice center that now bears his name.

The Commissioners Court approved the request made by the Walton family at its regular meeting Tuesday.

Walton retired in May 2021 due to health reasons. He had sat on the bench for 27 years.

In December of that year, the Commissioners Court voted unanimously to rename the Hood County Justice Center the Ralph H. Walton Jr. Justice Center.

Walton and his wife Patsy have lived in Hood County for almost 50 years. They moved here in 1974.

County Judge Ron Massingill said that the Walton family will pay costs associated with the portrait. He said that it will be painted by local artist James Spurlock and that a painting by Stewart hangs in the office of U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-TX 25th district.
