Public invited to police station grand opening, short-term rental workshop, other events

Posted

The city of Granbury is inviting the public to two events scheduled for Wednesday, May 18, and two events set for Saturday, May 21.

One of the Wednesday events is the grand opening of the new police station. The other is a workshop to discuss possible changes to rules involving short-term rentals.

A grand opening celebration for the new police station, located at 2050 NE Loop 567, will take place at 8:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be served before a brief ceremony and tours of the new facility.

The Short-Term Rental Workshop will take place at 6 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 116 W. Bridge St. The city would like to receive input from residents, business owners, and those with properties that are used as short-term rentals.

The city is seeking input as part of the process of considering proposed changes to the city’s zoning ordinance and city code. City officials and staff want to identify and prioritize concerns and develop clear and enforceable guidelines for the regulation of short-term rentals.

The Planning & Zoning Commission discussed the proposed changes at its May 9 meeting and identified some elements as needing further consideration. These will be topics in the workshop.

Video of the meeting and documents associated with the proposed changes can be viewed on the city’s website, www.granbury.org. Click on “Government,” then on “Watch Live Meetings Here.” Scroll down to Planning & Zoning Commission to find agenda and video links for the May 9 meeting.

Those with questions can contact the city’s Community Development Department at 682-205-1619 or comdev@granbury.org.

SATURDAY EVENTS

The city also wants the public to know about two events happening Saturday, May 21, at Hewlett Park on East Pearl Street/Business 377.

Those events are “Shred it to Protect It” and “Fill the Boot.”

Between 9 a.m. and noon, people can shred up to three bankers boxes of household documents. At the same time, they can support the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department by placing donations in a firefighter boot.
