Recent GHS grad wins scholarship

Granbury High School graduate Brittany Proctor is one of only 10 students from across the country chosen to receive a Lead with Languages Scholarship from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Proctor graduated from GHS in May and currently attends Tarleton State University.

“Brittany always strived to find ways to interact with and communicate with our deaf community, knowing it would benefit her learning,” said Liz Robblee-Davis, who taught Proctor for three or her four years in ASL classes at GHS.

Robblee-Davis feels that Proctor’s natural strength and skills will serve her well as she pursues her goal of becoming an elementary special education teacher.

“Brittany already recognizes the possibilities ASL brings to a classroom,” the teacher stated. “She wasn’t solely focused on her own success but the success of her peers and those she worked with. Bringing joy and cheer everywhere she goes, she has a deep focus and desire to be successful.”

As a Language Learning Scholar, Proctor will have opportunities to attend conferences and to enjoy memberships and other experiences that will help further her achievements in the field.

“Brittany understands the need to be able to reach as many students as she can, in as many ways as she can,” Robblee-Davis said. “This scholarship will open doors for her future students in unique and innovative ways.”
