A 16-year-old Tolar High School student was pronounced dead in Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater as a result of a gunshot injury suffered while hog hunting on May 7. That’s according to a preliminary report on the death released by the Fisher County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident report from Fisher County Sheriff Randy Ford — emailed to the HCN via the Double Mountain Chronicle in Rotan — states that Dylan Ray “D-Ray” Seymour was hog hunting with several other individuals when the incident occurred.

The report includes the statement, “On May 9th, 2022, I Deputy Joshua Benavides was contacted by (Sgt.) James Torres. (Sgt.) Torres advised me that Dylan passed away due to his injury.”

Ford also wrote in his email to the Rotan newspaper that “the investigation in this tragic incident leading to the death of this young man is ongoing,” and the report will be finished “sometime next week” after the autopsy results are obtained.

His obituary states that the funeral service was set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, to be held in the Tolar High School Gymnasium, with burial to follow at Tolar Cemetery.

First National Bank of Granbury confirmed with the HCN on Thursday that an account for donations in memory of D-Ray has been set up at the bank’s branch offices in Tolar, Granbury, Pecan Plantation, Acton and Cleburne to help the family with the medical treatment expenses and funeral expenses.

D-Ray’s 17th birthday would have been on Tuesday, May 17. He was a junior at THS.
