Second P&Z member files for council seat

A second member of the city's Planning and Zoning Commission has filed for the Place 5 seat on the Granbury City Council that has been vacated by Tony Mobly.

Richard Hoefs has joined Steven Vale in seeking the post.

Mobly relinquished the seat to run for mayor in a special election set for Tuesday, June 29. The special election was called due to the resignation of Mayor Nin Hulett. The Place 5 seat will be added to that ballot.

The HCN was informed on Friday that Vale had filed and was emailed notice over the weekend that Hoefs had also entered the race.

Both men are serving or have served on the boards of their homeowners associations.

Vale retired from Kraft Foods after 34 years as director of sales planning in various departments.

He moved to Granbury with his wife Lori in December 2013 and soon began working part-time as a ramp attendant at Granbury Regional Airport.

Vale and his wife are members of Stonewater Church and both volunteer at Forward Training Center of Hood County.

Vale was recently appointed by the City Council to serve a second term on the P&Z.

Hoefs retired from The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia in early 2017. He worked there for 32 years in a variety of management roles.

He and his wife Carol moved to Granbury in February 2017. They are members of Triple Cross Cowboy Church and supporters of Texas Christian University, having established four endowed scholarships there.

Hoefs was appointed to the city’s Ethics Commission in 2019 and later that year was moved to an opening on the P&Z. The council reappointed him to serve a full term on the commission in January 2020.

The filing period for the special election ends at 5 p.m. Thursday.
