Sheriff: Boy, 9, dies from gunshot wound

A 9-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound at a residence in Acton on Tuesday, Aug. 9 was pronounced dead after being transported to a Fort Worth hospital, Hood County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Josh Lane told the Hood County News Wednesday via email.

Lane stated in the email that “The circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation by the Hood County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers. At this time, there is no other information available to be released.”

Lane’s news release also states, “Deputies with the Hood County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 100 block of Abbey Park Court after receiving a 911 call for a 9-year-old child that had been shot. Arriving deputies determined that the child had been shot, while in the residence, and was being treated by EMS. The child was eventually transported by (air ambulance) to Cook Children’s Hospital (in Fort Worth).”

The email then adds, “… however (the child) was later pronounced deceased.”

The 911 call blotter lists the incident as having been called in at 1:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9.
