Hood County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call at about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of Pawnee Trail in the Indian Harbor subdivision and arrested a 46-year-old man accused of choking his girlfriend, according to Lt. Johnny Rose.

“Deputies discovered James Rodney Johnston allegedly choked his 29-year-old girlfriend during an argument and tried to hide from deputies,” Rose stated in an email, noting that the victim “was not seriously injured.”

Johnston was charged with a third-degree felony count of assault family violence/choking ($10,000 bond) and a Class A misdemeanor charge of evading arrest ($2,000 bond). Rose noted that Johnston stated that he is homeless when he was being booked into the Hood County Jail.
