Sheriff: Stabbing suspect charged; victim treated, released

A 29-year-old Granbury man is under arrest facing a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that resulted in a 36-year-old man being sent to an area hospital for treatment of “severe stab wounds,” Hood County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Johnny Rose stated in an email.

Rose originally stated that “deputies discovered a 36-year-old male with severe stab wounds on his neck area. The victim was air-lifted to JPS (John Peter Smith Hospital) in Fort Worth and is now listed (in) ‘stable condition.’”

Late Thursday morning (Dec. 9), Rose reported that the stabbing victim was released from the hospital and is in good condition.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call from Lake Granbury Medical Center at about 9 a.m. on Dec. 3, stating that a stabbing victim was being treated there for his injuries, according to Rose.

The suspect, who was arrested on Dec. 7 in the 1200 block of North Plaza Drive in Granbury, is identified as Charles Michael Anthony Seely, Rose said. His bond was set at $20,000.

“The case is still under investigation by the Hood County Sheriff’s Office investigators and a motive for the assault has not been determined,” Rose said, adding “We believe the assault occurred at a residence in Whippoorwill Bay.”

Originally, a second suspect had been taken into custody, also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but Rose stated that her charges “were dropped due to the results of the pending investigation. We are comfortable with the new information we discovered that she was not a participant in the stabbing.”
