Area hoops action is heating up
Lipan Indians
NO. 2 Lipan defeated No 5. Timpson to win the Tenaha Holiday Hoops tournament championship, but it wasn't easy as the Indians escaped with a 58-54 to run their season record to 19-0.
The Indians will now focus on District 11-2A play, where they have already racked up a 60-37 win against Poolville and are 1-0 in league play.
Lady Indians
The Lady Indians slipped from No. 2 to No. 3 in the TABC basketball poll, but Lipan's (17-5) only focus is the basketball court where they won the Tenaha Holiday Hoops championship with a hard-fought 54-51 over No. 4 Douglass (19-3).
Taylor Branson was named the tournament MVP, and Chelsea Lott and Lynsey Little were selected to the All-Tournament team.
Tolar Lady Rattlers
Baili Deaver was selected to the Eula All-Tournament after the Lady Rattlers came away with a fourth-place finish after dropping their final game 39-34 against Hermleigh.
The loss dropped Tolar (17-5) from the top 25 in the TABC rankings, but the Lady Rattlers' only concern is district play, where they are now 2-0.
Granbury Pirates
Granbury's win-one lose-one scenario is still playing out for the Pirates, who went 2-2 at the Fredericksburg tournament last week.
Granbury (7-8) fell to Liberty Hill 69-48, topped Savio 68-45, beat Georgetown 52-49, and dropped a tight contest to Hallsville 73-67.
The Hallsville clash was a three-point fest as both teams combined for 21 long-distance shots. Payton Plash led the scoring for Granbury with 18 points, Sawyer Schenewark had 14 and True Hughes added 13.
