Freshman Brown rushes for three scores in Tolar’s 42-25 win

Posted

Freshman running back Peyton Brown had a breakout night for Tolar as he rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns as the Rattlers moved their record to 3-1 with a 42-25 win against Comanche on the road Friday night.

Not to be outdone, senior Joseph Arce added 137 yards and a touchdown as Tolar ran for 300 yards as a team and averaged 8.3 yards per carry to stop Comanche on their own turf.

The Indians may have been behind on the scoreboard, but they had plenty of big-play potential, with quarterback Hudson Welch completing 17-of-29 for 302 yards. Welch tossed three touchdowns with a long bomb of 96 yards.

While Comanche outpaced Tolar with 461 total yards to 376, but the Indians got a third of their offense on three plays, with two running plays generating 46 of their 146 yards on the ground.

Brown knotted up the score at 7-7 in the second quarter, and it started a steady scoring trend for Tolar.

Brock Owens led the defense with 11 tackles (4 solos), and it was his fumble cause the led to a recovery of the ball and a score by Arce.

Comanche’s pass defense may have been the toughest Rattler quarterback Jackson LeCluyse has faced this season as he was limited to 3-11 passing for 42 yards, but the junior signal-caller managed to find Matt Moore for a 30-yard touchdown.

Arce tacked on Tolar’s next score with a spectacular 50-yard run that boosted his rushing average to 9.1 yards for the night.

Coach Jeremy Mullins and his staff served up steady doses of Brown and Arce throughout the second half to salt the game away.

Tolar got a big night on defense from junior Logan Stein with 10 stops, while Tyler McGown and Peyton Raines had six each.

Tolar heads to Valley Mills (2-2) for the final contest of three straight road games for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday.
