POWERLIFTERS: The Granbury Lady Pirates powerlifting team came away with nine medals at the Glen Rose Invitational.

Short on experience but filled with grit and determination, Granbury’s Lady Pirate powerlifting team came away with a slew of places Wednesday at the Glen Rose Invitational.

Granbury had two first-place finishers in Deysi Villegas and Viviana Sandoval and seven more lifters named second or third places.

“It was a great first meet of the season with more than half the team coming in with little to no competition experience,” coach Leah Haley said. “Many of them are underclassmen as well. I’m excited about the next meet.”

NINE MEDALS: The Lady Pirates' medal winners show off their hardware.

Second-place finishers included May London, Anne Barnes and Cherish Rodriguez. Jessica Aguado, Brooklyn Harper, Gracie Gast, and Jordis Harwell took third-place medals.

Granbury will hit the road again on Jan. 26 when the Lady Pirates travel to Aledo for a 5:30 p.m. meet.
