Former Karnes City head coach and athletic director Daniel Oelschlegel has been tabbed as the Granbury Pirates football team’s new offensive coordinator, replacing coach Matt Holly, who left for a position in Azle.

Last year, Oelschlegel took Class 3A Karnes City to its first playoff appearance after a six-year playoff drought in his second season at the school.

Before his stint at Karnes City, Oelschlegel spent five years as an offensive coordinator at Richland High School.

Oelschlegel played high school football legendary coach Phil Danaher (2023 class of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame nominee) at Corpus Christi Calallen.

After graduating in 2004, he attended Texas A&M, where he served as a recruiting assistant for four years under coaches Dennis Franchione and Mike Sherman.

Some impressive recruits on Oelschlegel’s resume include Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel and NFL draft picks Von Miller, Cyrus Gray, Luke Joeckel, Ryan Swope, Christine Michael and Sean Porter.

Oelschlegel moved on to Texas A&M Kingsville from 2010-14, where he coached tight ends, offensive line and running backs. Before his time in Richland, Oelschlegel spent a year at Bryan Rudder High School.

Oelschlegel graduated in 2010 with a University Studies-Business degree and completed his master’s degree at Texas A&M Kingsville in counseling and guidance in 2015.

He then recently finished his master’s degree at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in Counseling and Guidance in 2013.

He is married to his wife Alyson, who is also from Calallen.
