More people have been utilizing the free recycling program at the Hood County Citizens Collection Station. It could be attributed to the recent removal of community-wide dumpsters to recycle paper and cardboard.

“There’s been a definite increase,” said Jeannie Stacks, environmental health director for Hood County.

While additional people are using the collection station, not all are entitled. The Collection Station is for residential use only.

“We had someone try to leave paper and cardboard from commercial use,” Stacks said. “That’s not allowed.”

The Citizens Collection Station accepts a variety of items for recycling. There’s no charge to drop off plastic, glass, mailto:card-dschneider@hcnews.com cardboard, paper, metal, used motor oil and vehicle batteries. There’s no charge for tires, up to four, then it’s $2 each.

Food containers should be rinsed. Items with food on them cannot be recycled.

Bulky items, like a couch or mattress, can be dropped off for $5 each.

Rates by the trailer load are also an option.

The Citizens Collection Station is at 244 Bray St. and can be reached at 817-579-3288. The station is for Hood County residents only. Proof of residency and ID is required.

The station is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

This facility is not licensed to accept commercial waste or hazardous waste.
