Voter registration deadline nears for May election

Posted

April 1 is the last day to register to vote in the May elections.

City elections are planned for Cresson and Lipan.

In Cresson, only one of the three council members seeking re-election is being challenged. Jack Farr of Place 3 will face Lisa Clement.

A couple of glitches occurred in Lipan, and City Secretary Robin Viducic said Friday that she is still awaiting guidance from the state.

What is known is that Chris Tarpley of Place 2 and Nelson Ogle of Place 4 filed paperwork and drew no challengers for re-election.

The Place 1 seat held by Jackie Shockley is at issue because she failed to submit paperwork for a new term. Viducic said it is possible that Shockley will be appointed to the seat and will have to file during the next round of elections if she wants to continue serving.

There is also a question of what to do with a candidate who filed but listed two Place numbers – 4 and 5 – on her application. Place 5 is not on the ballot for this election.

Early voting at Annex 1, 1410 W. Pearl St., will begin on Monday, April 19.

The last day to apply for a ballot by mail (received, not postmarked) is Tuesday, April 20.
