Woman killed in lake boating accident

Posted

The body of a young woman who disappeared in Lake Granbury after being hit by a boat was found Tuesday morning.

The woman, identified as Chase Makenzie Coleman, 24, of Mabank, was on a tube being pulled by a boat.

The boat driver, 28-year-old Col leyville resident Dylan Cooper Cohen, was arrested and charged with felony intoxication assault. He was booked at Hood County Jail Saturday at 10:37 p.m. and released on $15,000 bond Monday morning.

The accident occurred in the main body of the lake on the south end of DeCordova. Dive teams were searching in about 30 feet of water near cliffs on the east side of the lake.

Thick trees under the water made recovery efforts difficult, DCBE-Acton Fire Chief Stephen Boynton said.

According to the DCBE-Acton Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page, report of a possible missing person in the water was received at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday.

“Rescue personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene and a search and rescue operation was initiated,” according to the page.

The command base was established on Thunderbird Court in DeCordova where distraught people, apparently from the boat, were being comforted.

“The operation continued until dark on Saturday without success,” according to the fire department’s Facebook page. “Search operations commenced again on Sunday morning at 8 a.m and continued until dark this evening, again without success. We anticipate the search to begin again Monday morning around 8 a.m.”

Game wardens are leading the investigation. They referred news media to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. A spokeswoman there texted Monday:

“Texas Game Wardens, in conjunction with the Texas Game Wardens’ Dive Team and K9 Team, Brazos River Authority, Trinity River Water District, Hood County Volunteer Fire Department, Somerville (sic) County Fire Department, and the Hood County Sheriff’s Office, are working on recovering the victim of Saturday’s acciden on Lake Granbury.

“An arrest has been made in the case but the investigation is ongoing, and no other details are available at this time.”

Sheriff Roger Deeds said a Tarrant County Water District boat with newer-style sonar equipment arrived on the scene.
