Donavon Glenn Schmidt, 70, of DeCordova Bend Estates ended his battle with cancer in the comfort of his home on Friday, May 8, 2020.
Donavon was born on March 12, 1950 to Gilbert and Velma Schmidt in Temple, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Helen; his sons, Nathan, Brian and Jordan; his stepdaughter, Stephanie; his stepson, Grayson; his brother, Randall; his sister, Wysonda; along with two loving grandchildren and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents.
Donavon was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend, known for his gentle spirit and Christian values.
After graduating from Southwest Texas State University, Donavon enjoyed a long and very rewarding career with Procter & Gamble. He started in Fort Worth in 1972 as a Sales Representative and held several sales management positions in Texas over the course of a 37-year career, before retiring as a highly respected Senior Account Executive in San Antonio. He was recognized many times in his career for his sales achievements, leadership and innovation skills and was well known for his creativity. Prior to retiring, Donavon was Procter & Gamble's top salesman in North America for three consecutive years. Donavon had a love for nature and enjoyed donating his time to good causes, including fostering service animals.
In retirement, Donavon enjoyed playing golf withfriends and traveling in his RV. He was an active member of the Men's Golf Association and served in different roles throughout the years, including President. Donavon also coached multiple sports throughout his adult life, but he had a true passion for coaching soccer. When he wasn't coaching all three of his son's soccer teams, he also served as a mentor to many of his players off the field. After retiring, Donavon continued his passion and became a volunteer youth coach in Granbury.
Donavon was a positive and optimistic person whose kind spirit impacted countless individuals and left a lasting impression on everyone around him. He was well-loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
