Joan LaVerne ‘Mimi’ Keener
Joan LaVerne Keener, “Mimi”, 84, peacefully passed away December 30th, 2018 at her home in Tomball, TX after a long battle with pneumonia and sequels of a stroke.
Joan, daughter of Thomas and Tennie Hogan, loving wife of Dwight was born on August 11th, 1934 in Fort Worth, TX. She is survived by her two sons; David and wife Kathy of Southlake, TX and Steven and wife Zandy of Houston, TX. Also by four grandchildren; Davis, Travis, Karen and Kristine; and niece Michelle and husband John Morgan of Dallas, TX.
Joan graduated from Paschal High School in 1951 and with a degree from Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth in 1954, she also earned a Master of Education Degree in 1978. After graduation, she worked as a teacher for Bleyl Middle School for many years and later became a counselor for Cypress Creek High School where she touched hundreds of students lives, until she retired. Mimi moved to Granbury with Dwight and her dog Max, in 2005. She lived in Fort Worth, Houston, Midland, Granbury and Tomball.
In 1958, Joan married Dwight Keener, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mimi enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a member of the Melody Bells Choir in Granbury where she loved performing. She passed away on her wedding anniversary to celebrate in heaven with Dwight. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and dogs Patches and Roxy.
