Margaret Reaves Hadley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born on November 16, 1929 in Greenwood, Mississippi to Clara and Earnest Reaves. She graduated from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She began her nursing career at Baptist Hospital in Memphis. She married Gene Hadley on July 12, 1957 at Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee. They met while attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Margarets nurturing spirit and heart for others was evident during her nursing years at Cook Childrens Hospital and Hood General Hospital. In 1968, the Hadley family moved to Granbury where Gene was pastor of First Baptist Church until his retirement in July, 1997. At First Baptist Church, Margaret served as a GA leader and Sunday School teacher and was active in the Womens Ministry Union. She had a love for missions and was a compassionate friend. Margaret felt Granbury was her home and many church and community friends and longtime neighbors were all part of her extended family. She enjoyed entertaining, hosting her Sunday School class Christmas luncheons and trying new recipes. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed all types of crafts. In retirement, gardening and having a yard of beautiful flowers brought her joy. A Baylor Alumni by Choice, Margarets favorite pastime included watching Baylor football and basketball (both mens and womens teams) and the Dallas Mavericks.
Margaret is survived by her devoted daughters, Rebekah and husband Dr. Charles North of Waco and Sarah and husband Brent Bergen of Arlington. Her special granddaughters are Emily North Henry and husband Tanner, Lindsay and Allie North and Julianne and Madeline Bergen. She is also survived by brothers and sister-in-laws, Jimmy and Betty Reaves of Nolensville, TN and Don and Brenda Reaves of Coldwater, MS and other extended family members. Special friends Todd and Sue Gibson along with their children Jenny and Jason Lichte and Ryan Gibson loved Margaret like family.
In acknowledgement of the current COVID-19 restrictions, her family will have a visitation on Saturday, September 5, 2020 from 12-2 pm at First Baptist Church Granbury, with a graveside service following at Holly Hills Memorial Park at 2:30 pm.
