Martha Loucretia Vaughn

VAUGHN Martha Loucretia Clemmer Vaughn, 93, formerly of Granbury TX, passed away on Monday January 13, 2020 in Jacksonville FL. She was born October 5, 1926 in Hamilton TX to the late Avery & Odee Mc- Crary Clemmer & graduated from Hamilton High School class of 1944. Martha married Richard Glenn Vaughn in Hamilton TX August 24, 1944, immediately after his commissioning as a Naval Aviator and they enjoyed 68 adventurous years together. Following the end of the war, they returned to Hamilton & opened a dry goods store with her parents. When war broke out in Korea, Glenn returned to active duty & remained with the Navy until his retirement in 1969. During these years they traveled the world & lived in such wonderful places as Japan, RI, HI, CO, VA & FL. Following his active duty years, they moved for the 3rd time to the Washington DC area, enjoyed the proximity to all of its cultural advantages, but most loved living near the Chesapeake Bay on the Patuxent River. While living in MD, they continued to travel the world. In 1996 they made their last move together, returning to TX and settling down on Lake Granbury. They were avid square dancers, boaters, and campers. In addition, she was a very gifted artist. While living in Japan, Martha was trained in the art of Kamakura Bori & produced many exceptionally lovely carved & lacquered items. She also did sculpting in wood & continued to paint. While living in MD Martha switched from carving & oils to water colors & pro duced an amazing collection of beautiful art. As a lifelong learner, she pursued studies at University of North Texas, Del Mar College & University of Rhode Island, setting a powerful example for her children & grandchildren. In 2015 Martha made one final move, returning for the 3rd time to Jacksonville FL. She was predeceased by her husband Richard Glenn Vaughn. Martha is lovingly remembered by her children, Richard & Cindy Vaughn of Glen Rose TX, Rebecca & Brian Caldow of Jacksonville FL, Philip & Carolyn Vaughn of Waldorf MD; grandchildren, Cindy & Bruce Ceriello of Jacksonville, Fl., Jason & Kristin Caldow of Jacksonville FL, Tammy Flusche of Ft Myers FL, Kristy Vaughn of of Atlanta, GA., Christine & Jason Graham of Herndon VA, Kenneth & Molly Vaughn of Virginia Beach VA; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Austin Flusche, Anne and Emmeline Vaughn, Ayla and Brock Caldow, Avery and Bennet Graham.
