Posted

Robert Jackson Barclay, Jr. of Granbury, TX, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 27, 2020. He was 80.

Robert was born in Fort Worth, TX to Robert Jackson Barclay, Sr. and Virginia Wagley Sorrels on October 20, 1939. He was the eldest of two sons. After attending Polytechnic Senior High School, Robert studied at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. As a young man, he enjoyed working at his father’s gas station.

In 1958, Robert married Dorothy Evelyn McDonald. The two would go on to have three children: Robert Dennis, Jerri Lynn and George William.

Robert worked at General Motors and later at Rock Island Railroad. In 1978, Robert moved his family to Iowa where he took a job as Station Master for the same railroad company located in Silvis, Illinois. In 1985, with two of his three children grown, Robert and Dorothy, along with their youngest son, George, returned to Fort Worth. There, Robert joined Roadway Express and worked as a truck driver until his retirement.

Robert’s beloved wife, Dorothy, passed into the loving arms of her Savior in 1986. Robert then moved to White Settlement, Texas. There he rekindled a friendship with Peggy Butcher. The two fell in love and married in 1992. Soon thereafter, the couple moved to Granbury, Texas where Robert later retired. Upon retirement, Robert had more time to pursue his hobbies. He was a voracious reader, especially of fiction. In fact, Robert was so well-read, that he was able to answer nearly every question on any given episode of Jeopardy. Robert maintained his passion for trains and enjoyed shopping at flea markets. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he never missed watching a game. Robert enjoyed playing online games and staying in touch with friends on Facebook. He took great pride in showing his visitors social media pictures of family and loved ones.

Robert was a loving husband and an active father in the lives of his children. While he endured several major hardships in his lifetime, he faced them with perseverance and fortitude. In fact, he made it his life mission to encourage and assist others. He blessed so many with his care and compassion for them.

Robert was predeceased by his parents and step mother, Ora May, spouses Dorothy and Peggy, his younger brother Walter, step-brother Roy, and his only daughter, Jerri Lynn. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Bob (Beth) of Ashburn, VA, George (Teresa) of Granbury, step-sisters Jean and Sissy, son-in-law Jerry, his grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
