Ruth Shaffer Roe Clinton, 88, passed away Thursday, April 2 at Groesbeck LTC in Groesbeck Texas.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date closer to her birth date.

Ruth was born in Thorp Spring, Texas the only child to George and Leona Shaffer. She married after graduating high school to Hugh Lancaster "Sonny" Roe of Granbury. She was hired as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Fort Worth, and afterwards made their home in the then rural Tarrant/Parker county area. She retired from SWB as a top systems salesperson in 1983 and afterwards worked for Fort Worth City Credit Union for 10 years, retiring from that job following the death of her husband, Sonny in 1992.

Ruth met and married Clifford "CW" Clinton in 2001 spending six happy years together until his death in 2007. She then moved to Groesbeck to be closer to her nephew and niece Jimmy and Patti Roe.

Aunt Ruth was a lifelong passionate learner of all things. She was proud of her Native American heritage, a very proud Texan and American belonging to both Daughters of the Republic of Texas and Daughters of American Revolution. She believed in and practiced a Christian life, always loving and never judging. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Groesbeck. Her interests and loves included horses, wildlife, wildspaces, wildflowers, bluebirds and hummers. She also loved parrots of which she kept several throughout her life. She taught herself Spanish for her travels in Mexico and visited many places with her husbands and friends.

Always an active learner she consumed books of all sorts throughout her life. Her interest also included hundreds of charities to which she generously gave.

Ruth is survived by many loved members from the Roe and Clinton families; also hundreds of friends and her neighbors; and lifelong friend, Mr. Velton Hughs of Dumas.

Great appreciation and recognition in caring for Aunt Ruth goes to the following: Groesbeck LTC staff, Providence Hospice of Mexia staff, Limestone Medical Center staff,
