Virginia Lee Denton Collins
Virginia Lee Denton Collins, age 84, passed away on April 26, 2019, in San Antonio, Texas. Virginia was born on December 14, 1934, in Winona, Texas. She married Harold Collins in August of 1958 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Harold’s career with Mott’s 5 & 10 took the family from Fort Worth to Dallas and then to Gran-bury, where Virginia worked for many years at Hood General Hospital, and later retired from Cook’s Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth. Granbury was always “home” to Virginia where so many friends were made and lasted over the years. Virginia later moved back to Winona and was reunited with many friends she made growing up. When an ice storm hit in early 2014 leaving her without power for three days, her youngest daughter insisted she move in with them in Houston and then later moved with the family to San Antonio.
Virginia was an avid reader and had mastered the use of a tablet. She also loved listening to country music, playing cards, cross-stitching, watching the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans, but mostly spending time with friends and family. Virginia loved life and loved to make you laugh.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Anna Lee Denton; husband, Harold Collins; daughter, Lisa Ferguson; son-in-law, Doug Ferguson; granddaughter, Staci Mayo; brother, Reagan Denton; and sister, Eugenia Martin.
Virginia is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marla and Tracy Mayo; grandson, Aaron Mayo; granddaughter, Kathy Tbaba and husband Abe Tbaba; granddaughters, Sarah Ferguson and Rebecca Ferguson; great-granddaughters, Jasmine and Hannah Tbaba; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
