Anticipation grows in Lipan as basketball, other sports get in full swing

Posted

Basketball season is in full swing in Indian Territory. The sound of the bouncing ball, the swish of the net and the yells from the stands are beginning once again.

In Lipan there is so much anticipation around basketball season, but there are many different sports in Indian Nation that are gaining anticipation this year.

Lipan moved up from Class A and is now Class 2A.

Lipan cross country athletes have proven that they were up for the challenge. The Lipan varsity girls advanced to regionals and will run in Dallas on Nov. 10. We have high hopes for another advancement to the state meet, Nov. 24.

In Lipan the kids start early in all areas of competitive sports. The kids’ activities range from football, volleyball, rodeo, softball and baseball to barbecue.

The Smoke Signals BBQ Team will compete in the first cook-off of the season Nov. 21 in Graham. The BBQ Team has already been keeping the fires hot, helping with the Kickapoo Festival.

This team is led by some amazing sponsors and they are getting them involved at every turn. The best way to get better is to practice. Most pit masters will tell you there is a 10,000 hour rule, which means to truly master cooking is to cook at least 10,000 hours. This fine group of kids are definitely getting a chance to dose in on that.

As a representative of the Lipan Volunteer Fire Department, I would like to express our deep appreciation to everyone who came out and supported the fire department in October.

As the holidays approach, if there is any news or exciting activities going on that you would like to be featured in this column, please just give me a call.
