Art guild pop-up show provides holiday shopping extravaganza

PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 28 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 15 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

Despite the chilly temperature and crisp wind of last Sunday afternoon, members of the Pecan Plantation Art Guild staged a lovely and successful pop-up art show at the golf course pavilion.

The unique offerings included various kinds of wall hangings as well as jewelry, thus giving attendees a jump start on holiday shopping.

The PPAG is an active bunch and meets collectively on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. at the PAC. At its most recent meeting, artists enjoyed a fused glass demonstration and workshop led by Susan Thillen as well as a silent auction for art supplies and tools. In addition, “Art on the Wall” at the clubhouse for November features the work of Barbara Brown.

Sales begin at noon and will end when all merchandise is sold, which will be swift. Come early to shop. All proceeds from the day will benefit the PPWC’s philanthropic activity both within and outside our gates.

PICKLEBALL PLAY

Pickleball instruction for beginners has been happening each Monday and Friday in the PAC gym this fall, but for the holiday season, this gathering will take a short sabbatical. The program will resume on Monday, Jan. 9, 2023. Pickleball play in the PAC gym and usage of outdoor pickleball courts will continue regular scheduling.

RV CLUB

Pecan’s Recreational Vehicle Club enjoyed a fall rally in Vidalia, Louisiana, that included good food, city tours, golf, and visiting historic homes.  A special feature of the trip was the performance of a murder mystery at the campground complete with players in costume.
