Fall has officially arrived, along with cooler weather, football, and harvest festivals — one of which is happening in Pecan Plantation today Saturday, Oct. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the PAC.

Pecan’s Fall Bazaar, hosted by our community’s Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary, welcomes neighbors (and folks from outside our gates too!) to partake in the veritable offerings the day will hold. Artists, artisans, crafters, woodworkers, and chefs will comprise the more than 65  merchant spots filled for the day. Attendees will also have an opportunity to learn about and interact with vendors offering many services and health products.

An exciting addition to this year’s event is an old-fashioned farmers market featuring fresh, homegrown produce and related products, including free-range eggs and chickens and market bouquets of fresh flowers. For shoppers looking for a cool and sweet treat, the Snow Belle truck will be onsite to offer refreshing shaved ice.

Enjoy musical performances by the Pecan Pickers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the PAC lawn, and the Auxiliary will have several nice raffle prizes and baskets with frequent drawings. The bazaar is a kid-friendly event and children may participate in activities conducted by Pecan Plantation volunteer firefighters, as well as view an exhibit comprised of several emergency vehicles and a fire truck.

The Fidget Chicks will be selling pulled pork sandwiches and chicken salad sandwiches, chips, and drinks in the PAC kitchen area, and Cowtown Gold & Silver will also be buying scrap gold, silver, and other precious metals with 10% of the day’s profits benefitting Pecan’s emergency services.

Every penny raised from events on bazaar sale day will benefit Pecan’s emergency personnel.

AUXILIARY MEETING

Monday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. will find the VFD/EMS Auxiliary members at their next official meeting, no doubt discussing the events of fall bazaar day.

Attendees will also hear from Lieutenant Scott Christy, a firefighter and paramedic with Pecan’s VFD. Ladies and gentlemen interested in auxiliary fundraising are welcome to join the gathering, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the PAC.

WELCOME HOME

The most recent residents of our community are welcome to meet and ask questions of Membership Committee members today (Saturday, Oct. 2), at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse ballroom at new member orientation.

Pecan’s golf course has a busy week ahead when Monday, Oct. 4 will find players from Granbury High School participating in golf play; on Tuesday, Oct. 5, the LGA will have a play day; and Saturday, Oct. 9 and Sunday, Oct. 10 will bring the MGA Championship.

The pro shop staff also reminds golfers that beginning Wednesday, Oct. 6, the first tee time of the day will be at 8 a.m.

COMING SOON

Pecaners will want to mark their calendars for Friday, Oct. 15 (members only) and Saturday, Oct. 16 (non-residents welcome) when garage sale weekend will arrive.

Lists from folks participating in sale day will be accepted beginning Friday, Oct. 1 by calling the clubhouse front desk. Watch Pecan’s Facebook page and website for more details concerning the garage sale event.

MEMBER FORUM

The administration and board members thank the folks who attended the recent member forum gathering where much helpful information concerning Pecan’s future was discussed.

A summary of the conversation is posted under the “Weekly Q&A” tile on Pecan’s website where all members may view. Material includes input from members who attended the gathering as well as emails submitted to the board.

Email messages sent to board@ppoaweb.com are welcome; questions and responses will continue to appear weekly on Pecan’s website.

SPOOKY SEASON

The PAC will be hosting a Halloween party and Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 2 to 4 p.m., and more details about the event will be forthcoming.

For now, Pecaners may put this party date on their calendars, and volunteers who would like to be involved with the day by either helping with the party or providing a “trunk” with treats may be making plans.

Last year’s event was canceled, but in previous years’ Halloween soirees, more than 300 little ones have participated in the fun.
