First 2022 meeting of Pecan Woman’s Club coming Jan. 20

Posted

PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

The Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club (PPWC) will gather collectively again on Thursday, Jan. 20 with social time beginning at 9:30 a.m. and President Annelle Teal calling the meeting to order at 10.

The program will be brought by Kim and Larry Henney from Woven with Hope, an organization bringing dignity and hope to women who provide for their families and earn voices within their community. Woven with Hope will also be the tabletop charity for the meeting.

The PPWC, whose tenets include friendship, fellowship, philanthropy, and a pursuit of the arts, welcomes all Pecan ladies to its ranks.

WELCOME HOME

A new member orientation will happen Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. in the Brazos Room at the Pecan clubhouse. Folks from the membership committee will be present to welcome new residents (or folks who have been here a while and never attended an orientation), give information, and answer questions about our community. Everyone is welcome.

Can’t make Tuesday’s meeting? No worries: another orientation is planned for Saturday, Feb. 5.

To register, contact Kathie Schoepf at kschoepf@charter.net.

GENEALOGY GROUP

The next gathering of the Genealogy Club will happen Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. at the Granbury Church of Christ when “writing your family history” will be the program for the day. Not on the mailing list for this group? Contact Ronda Bauman to be added: 512-461-5128.

TENNIS NOTE

“Winter Junior Tennis” begins Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 4:30 p.m. Stop by the pro shop to register. In addition, an Australian Open mixer is on the calendar for Friday, Jan. 21 at 5 p.m. Social mixed doubles, food, fun, and fellowship are all on the menu. Sign up for this event too in the tennis pro shop: 817-579-9412.

BRAZOS ROOM

The Brazos Room hosted its first members last week as Pecaners visited the clubhouse to support our food and beverage team. Helpful feedback from attendees has aided the reopening of this amenity.

The Brazos Room is now operating weekly Thursday through Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. Seating happens on a first come, first served basis with no reservations being taken at this time.

The Pecan clubhouse staff thanks members for their patience and continued support of food service in our neighborhood.

ELECTION TIME

The board of directors of Pecan plays an integral role in our community, and without folks seeking this avenue of service, our association would suffer.

Thank you to members willing to be candidates on this year’s ballot: Jay Arrington, Gene Barron, Jr., Nathan Carriker, Jamison Drake, Larry Johnson, Jennifer Lancaster, Venisa McLaughlin, Thomas Mead, Steve Perry and Bill Reilly.

Best wishes to all of these candidates, and gratitude goes to them for their willingness to serve our community.

Members will soon be receiving information about each candidate as well as dates for meet and greet events.

MAINTENANCE WORK

Drainage projects began in Pecan’s airport area last week; equipment and materials have been moved across Wedgefield and to the north end of the runway.

Members are thanked for their patience and cooperation during this process; updates will be forthcoming as the project progresses.

BLOOD DRIVE

The American Red Cross is coming back to the PAC in Pecan on Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a blood drive. Residents have received email with a link for making a donation appointment. Folks may also call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter Pecanplantation to find our community’s registration site.

COMMITTEE CHAIR

Pecan’s entertainment committee needs a chair for planning neighborhood events. The position requires preparing meeting agendas, leading committee meetings the first Wednesday of each month, monitoring and following up on planned social events, and attending the BOD workshop every second Thursday of the month.

Brenda Palmer has led this committee for several years and done an outstanding job in facilitating fun events in Pecan. She invites interested parties to contact her at bpalmer@ppoaweb.com.

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to Bob and Pauline Cote on the loss of their son, Robert.
