From day to day, let’s make an effort to be a ‘good’ finder, avoid negativity

MAYOR OF CRESSON

Cresson Mayor Teena Putteet Conway, a native of Cresson, attended school for two years in the historic Cresson school. She is a Granbury High School graduate, and earned a BBA degree from Baylor University. After marrying, then raising her family in the Metroplex, she returned to Cresson after 40 years.

I had this phrase shared with me this week and it made me stop and think. The person that shared it said her mother always said, “Kerri, be a ‘good’ finder.” From time to time it would come up whenever the daughter would be going down a negative trail.

With all that is going on in the world today, there are plenty of opportunities to hear, read, and speak the negative things. Whether it is in the political arena or our own GISD School Board meetings, or the Hood County Commissioner’s meetings, there is almost always a cloak of negativity over them.

It is impossible to expect a perfect eutopia type of existence, but I do think that a gentle reminder from time to time is effective. It reminds me of the ‘WWJD’ bracelets that were so popular 20 years ago. Just a gentle reminder to think before you speak. Think before you make a post on Facebook. My mom was correct when she would tell us that there are always two sides to every story.

With technology and our cell phones, it is so easy to hop on social media and just rip something or someone to pieces. I used to tell my teams in my past careers that I was most certainly open to being made aware of issues or problems. However, it was a requirement to bring at least three suggested solutions or remedies to the discussion as well. I realize that they were closer to the issue and probably had better solutions to suggest.

So, I am going to start reminding myself of the need to be a “good” finder! Positivity goes a long way in our wonderful community. For example, whenever I think of Visit Granbury’s Tammy Dooley it makes me smile with positivity. The same is true for the Chamber of Commerce’s Brian Bondy. This guy radiates with good vibes. And speaking of vibes, do not leave out Eric Wilkens at Vybe Realty. He lives and breathes positive vibes. I could go on and on, but you get what I’m trying to share here.

CLEAN-UP DAY

Moving on to my focus most of the time around trash! Cresson will hold its twice annual Cresson Clean-Up for our trash customers on Saturday, April 22, with a backup rain date of April 29. Granbury is doing a clean-up project as well and we applaud their efforts!

Spring is for more than just deep housecleaning! Look around town and see what trash you can pick up and definitely take a peek into your garages! Just do not come to my house and inspect our garage, as we have definite challenges in that area.

Enjoy the bluebonnets and the warmer weather and let us continue to be thankful for the Relief Route that is in progress to avoid the train!
