DECEMBER 1942
A Dec. 3, 1942, Hood County Tablet article stated:
“Gas rationing went into effect as scheduled at midnight, Dec. 1, and was met with a smile and a wise crack. It was also met with tired gasoline dealers and filling station operators. … There was a large number of B.G.R. (before gasoline rationing) visiting in Granbury and Hood County.”
100 YEARS AGO
DECEMBER 1922
According to an article in the Dec. 8, 1922, Granbury News, “A good coating of gravel has been put on a part of the street between the square and depot, which improves it very much. It is a pity the town is not in shape to make some real permanent street improvement. Enough money has been spent on that street to make a permanent brick or macadam road all the way during the past ten years, but so little can be spent at a time the work is to be a great extent wasted.”

The Granbury News announced the following, in its Dec. 2, 1932, edition:

70 YEARS AGO
DECEMBER 1952
H.H. Sargent, mayor of the city of Granbury, posted the following notice on the Hood County Tablet’s front page on Dec. 4, 1952: “To the Citizens of the City of Granbury, I wish to remind all of you now that the Christmas Holidays are approaching, it will be appropriate for the young folks to have fun and frolic and with this it is a long time custom to explode fire-works, however, I wish to call the attention to the citizens that it is a violation of the law, to explode fire-works on the public square, side-walks and on the streets and alleys, within two blocks of the public square, the only exception to this is, the general public will be allowed to explode fire-works in the Court House yard.”
60 YEARS AGO
DECEMBER 1962
The Hood County News-Tablet’s front page on Dec. 6, 1962, ran a column titled Nominees for Pecan Queen On TV Saturday. “Everyone in Hood County who can be in front of a TV set at that time will be watching with pride.
Entries to date are Mary Jo Stewart, sponsored by the Junior Woman’s Club; Diane Moore, sponsored by the Tolar FFA Chapter; Carol Sue William, sponsored by the Mambrino Home Demonstration Club; Anita Swaim, sponsored by the Acton 4-H Club and Betty Degan, sponsored by the Rotary Club.
Appearing with these attractive young ladies will be the officers of the Pecan Growers Association.”
