Giving thanks for student learning opportunities

Can you believe it is almost Thanksgiving? This school year is flying by.  Granbury ISD is on a mission to ensure we extend our many thanks to our students, parents, staff, and community. Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful for the opportunities we have been given to make a difference in the lives of those around us.

Like many of you, my family certainly has a lot to be thankful for this year. Our son Jayce continues to recover from his summer car accident, and he should be 100% in the coming months. We cannot thank this community enough for all of the prayers and support we received.

For Granbury ISD, the start of this school year was difficult. In August, we reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases our schools had seen since the pandemic began. Many people were upset at the district’s decision to move forward with in-person instruction. This was not an easy time for many in our community.

However, we stuck by our decision to keep schools open and students in class.

The credit goes to our entire staff: teachers, cafeteria workers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, maintenance workers, and many others. Our team put aside their personal beliefs, rolled up their sleeves, and kept our schools open for kids.

In GISD, we understand that the most effective instruction happens in our classrooms where students and teachers have the opportunity to interact personally.

On Thursday, Nov. 18, our school board and administration delivered $500 checks to employees who served our students and community during these difficult times. These retention stipends were small tokens of appreciation to a staff that has gone above and beyond the expected the last 18 months. We are blessed with great schools and thankful for those educators who serve our students.

This Thanksgiving we want to remind everyone that there are always, always, always reasons to be thankful. We are thankful to live in a community that supports its schools.  On behalf of our entire district, we wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving!
