Here is a list of op 10 new year’s travel resolutions to consider:

10. Use your PTO: A common trend with American workers is to cash out their Paid Time Off, rather than take a vacation. Your mind, body and soul need rest! You need a vacation.

9. Go somewhere new: Many travelers are creatures of habit. For some families it’s the annual trip to Walt Disney World. Many couples have a favorite all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean. My mother-in-law has enjoyed more than 40 cruises! Get out of your comfort zone and go somewhere unexpected.

8. Out of Office: Leave work at work. Set up an Out of Office email reply and voicemail greeting. Don’t check your email, texts, or voicemail. Be present in the experience.

7. Try a new activity: Every trip I look for something new to try. This past year I experienced sailing a Hobie-Cat at a Sandals resort, Rock Climbing on a cruise ship, and zip-lining in Mexico. Although the zip line scared me, I enjoyed the new experience with my friends.

6. Try a weird local food: The foods of the world are an experience unto themselves. I encourage picky eaters to step out of their comfort zone and try something they’d never eat at home. Start with something easy like conch salad in the Bahamas, jerk chicken in Jamaica, toltott paprika in Budapest, Spam cuisine in Hawaii, and if you’re more adventurous you can try blood sausage in the UK, haggis in Scotland, escargot and frog legs in France, or snake in Asia.

5. Get a passport and use it: If you have never traveled internationally then it’s time to pick an incredible destination and go. Immerse yourself in a foreign culture, experience the history, art, architecture, cuisine, language, fashion, iconic sights.

4. Global entry and TSA precheck: Make the travel experience easier and more hassle free. Take the fast track through airport security and customs / border patrol. This requires a short in-person interview. They will take your fingerprints, and you will receive a special ID number and card. Use this when booking flights and enjoy the fast track!

3. Buy new luggage: Maybe your current bags are broken and worn out. Maybe they are the wrong size. Airlines have updated the allowed size for carry-on bags and have weight restrictions for checked luggage. New luggage options come with technology like battery chargers for your devices.

2. Buy travel insurance: Travel Insurance will help you with unexpected cancellations, medical coverage in foreign countries where your normal health insurance is not accepted, emergency evacuation coverage (helicopter out of remote areas to a hospital), lost luggage and more.

1. Take your bucket-list trip: Don’t wait until you can’t enjoy it. Too many people put off their bucket list trip until their health is too frail. Some wait too long and never get to go. If you can’t afford it, start saving toward it. Make a plan to take your Daydream Vacation in five years and start saving a little each month until you’re ready.
