Huge thanks and congratulations to Visit Granbury!

Posted

FROM MY FRONT PORCH

Sam Houston is the publisher of the Hood County News. He is also an actor, author, playwright, performer and entertainment producer/promoter.

This past week, Visit Granbury Director Tammy Dooley attended the Texas Association of Fairs and Events Convention. Knowing Tammy, she attended this statewide meeting to gather ideas and see how other tourism associations are performing — in her constant effort to make Visit Granbury the best tourism group on the planet.

By the time she headed home, she found out a whole lot of people believe she and Visit Granbury are the standard that professionals in her industry should seek to emulate.

During the convention it was announced that Visit Granbury won 10 Ray Cammack Marketing Awards, including six first-place finishes, and second place in four categories. Additionally, Tammy had the honor of being named the TAF&E’s 2021 Professional of the Year!

Folks, this is big news. Tourism is Granbury’s leading industry. It is a proven economic force and has been a major catalyst in our development and growth. It provides jobs, sales tax income and an identity for our community to others around the world. Tourism has played a big role in Granbury being named the Best Historic Small Town in America three years in a row! People love to come to Granbury!

Those of us who work with Visit Granbury on a weekly basis already knew what these awards recognized. Visit Granbury has a great team in place, and it is led by a one-of-a-kind woman who is a true mover and shaker in the tourism industry. Great job to the entire staff of Visit Granbury, and my heartfelt congratulations to my dear friend Tammy. You have my respect and my admiration. Good Job!

LION GETTING

READY TO ROAR

On Friday, Jan. 21 at 7:30, and on Saturday, Jan. 22, at both 2 and 7:30 p.m., I will be performing my one-man play, “The Lion of Texas — A Conversation with Sam Houston” at the Granbury Opera House. This show is not a history lesson nor a lecture, but rather a dramatic portrayal of the life of one of the greatest icons in Texas history, General Sam Houston.

With sound and visual effects, it is my hope to bring to life the power, strength and incredible story of a Texas legend. If you have not yet secured tickets, please go online to granburytheatrecoompany.org and get them today. All proceeds go to the Opera House to help fund all the wonderful programs and shows it brings to our community throughout the year. I hope you’ll come out and enjoy an entertaining show, help the Opera House, and have a chance to visit with me after the show. I look forward to seeing you all there!
