Pecan’s annual salute to veterans will be a star-spangled event

Posted

PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

Abundant gratitude and deepest respect go to the men and women who serve in our country’s armed forces, and Pecan’s annual time to salute veterans will come Wednesday, Nov. 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Pecan clubhouse.

Attendees will register in the lobby and be able to view the photo hall of fame. Pecaners may send pictures of military loved ones to aaron@ppoaweb.com to be included in the photo array.

The outside program will commence at 8:15 with a call to colors and formation fly over. Granbury High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC will assume flag detail, and The Judge and the Jury will sing the national anthem.

The inside program will include breakfast service followed by Chief Warrant Officer 5 Marine Gunner Michael Musselman.

Seating is limited, and reservations are required: 817-573-2641.

MARINA DAY

“Marina Fest” is the call sign today, Saturday, Nov. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. when Pecan’s marina is hosting activities, games, food, entertainment, and the opportunity to explore our community’s marina facilities.

SADDLE UP

Pecaners who board their horses at our neighborhood’s stables recently enjoyed a morning nature ride along the Brazos River and through the orchard.  Pecan’s equestrian center provides both long term and temporary boarding for horses. For more information on the stables and its offerings, contact Tammy Dressman at 817-614-9744.

 FALL DÉCOR

The Green Thumb Garden Club (GTGC) has outdone itself in welcoming fall with autumn decorations at our front and back circles. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made these scenic areas so beautiful!

The GTGC is currently accepting new members. Contact Linda Kunzman for complete membership information: lindagogo@msn.com. Folks interested in joining the bunch (or making a donation to the club) are welcome.

AUXILIARY MEETING

The Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service met last week and welcomed the two gentlemen vying for a spot on Pecan’s VFD/EMS board of directors, Kevin Dose and Mark Wilson. The auxiliary also presented a slate of officers for 2022, and auxiliary president Sandy Stultz shared her experiences as a Red Cross volunteer.

The auxiliary fundraises year-round for our emergency medical services and welcomes ladies and gentlemen interested in serving our first responders in this way.

VOTING TIME

Ballot boxes for the Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service board of director election are located in the Pecan clubhouse lobby and the Charlie Lee EMS Building, and members may deliver their marked forms through Saturday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. Sending ballots through the mail to 9518 Monticello Drive is also an avenue for voting. Folks should remember to sign ballots and include member number on the outside envelope.

VACCINE AVAILABLE

Chief of Pecan’s Emergency Medical Service Sandra Winfield announces that flu shots are now available for $20 at the EMS compound weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

TENNIS CHAMPS

Pecan’s mixed doubles tennis team is in Tyler this weekend competing in sectional play. Congratulations to our bunch and good luck on the court!

The Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club will meet again on Thursday, Nov. 16, and the reservations line is open. Contact Gerta Howell at ppwcres@gmail.com or 817-964-3139 to join the event.

The PPWC has a big date coming on Saturday, Nov. 20 when its annual Thanksgiving Bake Sale will begin at 10 a.m. at the PAC.
