PECAN PLANTATION BITS
A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 28 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 15 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.
Members of the Pecan Plantation Community Gardens have been busy lately. The group held a “Lunch and Learn” session at the PAC two weeks ago, the first of many desired periodic sessions planned by some of the group’s seasoned gardeners. At the event, Billie Colbert presented useful information on organic gardening that included the topics of planting times, planting seasons, and the best varieties for our area.
In addition, club members gathered last week for a workday when folks weeded, worked new beds and harvested crops.

BLOOD DRIVE
Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive in Pecan on Monday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. when three buses will be parked at the clubhouse. Residents received email with a scannable code (also available in the September edition of The Columns) for securing a donation time. Appointments are recommended, but walkups are welcome. WELCOME HOME
The next new member orientation will happen Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. in the clubhouse ballroom. New members to the association, as well as seasoned ones who want to learn new and exciting information about our neighborhood, are invited to join. GENEALOGY GROUP
The Genealogy Group will meet again on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at the EMS training room located in Pecan’s emergency services facilities on Monticello Drive. Everyone is welcome, and attendees do not need to be Pecan residents. The theme for the day will be “show and tell” when folks are asked to bring a family heirloom or other object of interest to show to the group. GOLF DATES
Pecan’s Ladies’ Golf Association has its member/guest event on the calendar for Monday, Sept. 19 through Wednesday, Sept. 21, and the Men’s Golf Association has 8:30 a.m. shotgun play scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22.
BREAKFAST CLUB
The next gathering of Breakfast Club comes Wednesday, Sept. 28 when Granbury’s Chief of Police Mitch Galvan will be the guest speaker and give an update on the police department as well as local criminal activity. The morning begins at 9 a.m. in the Terrace Room of the Pecan clubhouse.

ART GUILD
The Pecan Plantation Art Guild anticipates its annual gallery event, now named “Martie’s Party Gallery Night” in loving memory of PPAG member Martie Rains.
Friday, Sept. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. will find art connoisseurs enjoying four home galleries. Meeting the artists and seeing live demonstrations will be part of this event where no admission is charged. Check in at the clubhouse for maps and beverage tickets; carpooling is recommended. In addition, the evening will include a reception at the clubhouse where members of Martie’s family will be present and many of her beautiful paintings displayed.
The evening will allow participants to meet 21 artists who are members of the PPAG and view their amazing work, all of which is for sale.
MARINA HOURS
Effective last week, the hours of the marina grill are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The grill will be closed Tuesday through Friday.
