PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

Big congratulations are in order for Pecan Plantation’s 7.0 USTA mixed doubles tennis team! Led by Bonnie Douglas and Hal Spottswood, the group won the Fort Worth League and thus qualified for the Texas Sectional Championship in Tyler, Nov. 5-7.

The team was victorious over Houston, Northeast Texas and Amarillo and only lost to a very skilled team from Austin in a competitive match. Well done, players!

Competitors included on the mixed doubles squad are Dick Barden, Olivia Barden, Bonnie Douglas, Lee Jordan, Susie Jordan, Hal Spottswood, Karen Spottswood, and Mike Williamson.

The golf pro shop reminds players that the 90-degree cart rule, as well as a maximum of 3 carts in the fairway, is in effect.

TRAINING TIME

A website training for the ABDi System will happen Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Bluebonnet Room of the Pecan clubhouse. Website navigation, registration assistance, tutorials and demonstrations, and email sign up include topics to be covered.

AUXILIARY EVENT

One of the greatest amenities of Pecan Plantation lies in the emergency response groups that keep our community safe every day, and neighborhood residents have one more fundraising opportunity to support our volunteer crews.

The Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary’s casserole and holiday bake sale will happen Saturday, Dec. 4 beginning at 10 a.m. at the PAC and continue until all items are sold. Auxiliary members are busy preparing a variety of delicious offerings for sale, and many items will be wrapped or decorated for holiday gift giving.

Also, Auxiliary volunteers wanting to prepare casseroles or baked goods for the sale may collect aluminum pans of various sizes ready for use from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the EMS office. In addition, several cooking events where volunteers gather at one location as a group and cook are planned, making the gatherings both full of fellowship and preparation for the sale. Folks desiring to participate in such a way may contact their phone tree captains.

Patty Eatmon (951-970-5490) and Shirley Jairett (530-401-4936) are co-chairs of this important, final fundraiser of 2021 and are available to answer questions or provide more information about bake sale day.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Pecan’s Breakfast Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 8 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Pecan clubhouse. Reservations are due by noon on Tuesday, Dec. 7: 817-573-2641.
