Pecan’s tennis courts in full swing of activities this season

Posted

PECAN PLANTATION BITS

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

In addition to the mixed doubles team being successful in its recent sectional competition, other happenings at Pecan’s tennis courts abound.

A court resurfacing project is now complete, new shade structures are in place, and even some new benches are ready for use. Junior tennis happens every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. through Dec. 15 for players ages 6 and up. A fall play-day brought more than 30 attendees for good food and tennis play. Coach John Ingram oversees lessons, matches, and events at the tennis center.

TRAINING TIME

A website training for the ABDi System will happen Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m. in the Bluebonnet Room of the Pecan clubhouse. Website navigation, registration assistance, tutorials and demonstrations, and email sign up include topics to be covered.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Pecan’s Breakfast Club will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 1 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Pecan clubhouse. Reservations are due by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 30: 817-573-2641.

Attendees will hear from Jake Cormier, Pecan Plantation’s new general manager, and then enjoy music provided by Rebecca Faiola and JetBlacq. Seating for the morning is limited, and a breakfast buffet will be available.

AUXILIARY EVENT

One of the greatest amenities of Pecan Plantation lies in the emergency response groups that keep our community safe every day, and neighborhood residents have one more fundraising opportunity to support our volunteer crews.

The Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary’s casserole and holiday bake sale will happen Saturday, Dec. 4 beginning at 10 a.m. at the PAC and continue until all items are sold.

Also, Auxiliary volunteers wanting to prepare casseroles or baked goods for the sale may collect aluminum pans of various sizes ready for use from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the EMS office. In addition, several cooking events where volunteers gather at one location as a group and cook are planned, making the gatherings both full of fellowship and preparation for the sale. Folks desiring to participate in such a way may contact their phone tree captains.

Patty Eatmon (951-970-5490) and Shirley Jairett (530-401-4936) are co-chairs of this important, final fundraiser of 2021.

ART TIME

Pecan resident and artist Heidi Easley will return to the PAC on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. for a “sleigh ride paint party.” The event promises fun, prizes, and music as participants create a holiday wooden sled.

Spots are limited to 20, and registration is a must: 817-573-7952.

HOLIDAY HOMES

The Pecan Plantation Woman’s Club’s annual Christmas Tour of Homes will happen Thursday, Dec. 9, and this very popular event encompasses an entire day of holiday merriment.

Santa’s workshop and bakery running from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the clubhouse will begin the festivities, and come and go touring of beautifully decorated homes will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Brunch and dinner options may also be purchased with tour packages, and folks may choose their preferred option at www.myppwc.com.

The PPWC ladies use the funds generated from this holiday activity to support their chosen philanthropies, club projects, and scholarship fund.

WITH GRATITUDE

I hope all the readers of Pecan Bits enjoyed a very happy Thanksgiving filled with family and fellowship. The kindness of community and the willingness of people to share news and stories with me certainly add to my “thankful” list.

SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Charles Bolton, who passed away Nov. 15.
