PECAN PLANTATION BITS

Auxiliary fellowship, fundraiser planning

A Mississippi native who has been a Texas transplant for 27 years, Diane Long is a wife, mother, and English teacher who has written Pecan Plantation Bits for 14 years cumulatively. She spends her time both gathering neighborhood news and teaching students how to avoid passive voice.

The Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary welcomed members and guests to its May meeting where attendees enjoyed food and fellowship (including a game that helped folks get to know each other better) before conducting business and making plans for the group.

A business meeting followed where members discussed the upcoming Auxiliary Golf Tournament set for Saturday, June 25 as well as the Fall Bazaar on the calendar for Saturday, Oct. 1.

In addition, Jenna Boro was overwhelmingly approved to assume Auxiliary Membership Director, a role where she will recruit new members to the group as well as promote awareness of the auxiliary’s purpose and mission in our community.

The auxiliary will meet again on Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m. in the EMS meeting room of the emergency services compound located on Monticello Drive. All ladies and gentlemen interested in this group that raises funds for Pecan’s emergency personnel are invited to attend.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Pecan’s Breakfast Club will meet on Wednesday, May 25 at the clubhouse, and the day has a new start time. Breakfast service followed by a program will begin at 9 a.m.

Carrie Reynolds, a championship barrel racer and member of the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, in addition to being the director of the Chisholm Trail Outdoor Museum in Cleburne, will speak to attendees. She will give information about the museum, which holds the number one ranking in open air outdoor museums in Texas. Carrie will relate the major events happening at the museum throughout the year and why children love to visit.

Breakfast Club reservations are due by noon on Tuesday, May 24. Call 817-573-2641 to secure a spot.

BOARD MEETING

The next meeting of Pecan’s board of directors comes Thursday, May 26 at 6 p.m. in the clubhouse ballroom.

DINNER GROUP

Pecan’s Widows/Widowers Support Group will meet in the Terrace Room for dinner on Thursday, May 26 at 6 p.m. RSVP to 214-907-7563.

SPLISH SPLASH

A big day for Pecan’s swimmers comes Thursday, May 26 when the clubhouse pool will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. The pool will receive swimmers during Memorial Day weekend, be closed on Tuesday, May 31, and begin summer operating hours on Wednesday, June 1.

ART GUILD

The Pecan Plantation Art Guild is pleased to present its 2022 Spring Show beginning Friday, May 27 and running through Friday, June 10. Artwork, including two- and three-dimensional pieces as well as photography, will be displayed at Farina’s Winery and Cafe just off the Granbury square. The guild’s Artist of the Year will be the recipient of the Best of Show award at the event. A reception where attendees may meet the artists will happen on Friday, May 27 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

MARINA FEST

The marina at Pecan Plantation has big plans for Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 when “Marina Fest” will happen from 3 to 6 p.m. each day.

Events will include the grand re-opening of the Pecan marina grill and store as well as live music provided by The Brazos River Strangers. The event is sponsored by both the Marina Committee and the Entertainment Committee.

MEMORIAL DAY

Pecan’s annual Memorial Day party signals the commencement of summer, and this year’s fete comes on Sunday, May 29. The hours of 5:30 to 10 p.m. will bring live music, food, games, and neighborhood fellowship.

The pool will be open with disc jockey Ducado Vega, and music selections will feature Jack Mason. Food will be provided by the clubhouse staff and served in the ballroom until 9 p.m. All food purchases must be made with tickets, which will be available in the clubhouse lobby on event day. Lawn chairs and golf carts are welcome.

GOLF FUNDRAISER

The 2022 Pecan Plantation Volunteer Fire Department/Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary Golf Tournament is on the calendar for Saturday, June 25, and about 70 golfers are already registered to play.

Committee Chair Jennifer Lancaster is also busy signing up sponsors, and several levels of patronage exist. Folks seeking to join the sponsor list may send email to ppvfdemsgolf@gmail.com. In addition, the raffle prize list is generous and growing, and ticket sales will begin soon.

The auxiliary raises funds year-round for our emergency services, and every penny raised supports our volunteers.

WITH SYMPATHY

Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of former Pecan resident Juania Ball, who passed away March 29, and also to the family of Peg Smith, who died March 31.
