Still the best value in Hood County!

Posted

 FROM MY FRONT PORCH

I am nearly 65 years old, and I can remember a lot of prices changing over the years.

When I was just a little squirt my sister and I could go to the corner store and get a Coke for a dime and a Snickers for a nickel!

I recently stopped at a convenience store on my way out of town and a bottle of Pepsi cost me $2.29! When I was young a gallon of gas was 26 cents, at the butcher shop hamburger meat was 39 cents a pound and at the newsstand a newspaper was a quarter!

We all know those "good old days" are gone forever. I will never again get a Coke for a dime or gas for .24. Prices continue to go up for all manufacturers and thus on all manufactured goods and we all accept it as part of life.

You may not know, but the Hood County News is the only non-daily newspaper I am aware of that is still delivered by human beings. No one else still provides this type of service because it is simply cost-prohibitive. The HCN provides this service because we think it is important to our customers.

Recently, the company that contracts with us to provide our delivery service raised our rates nearly 35% in one jump! There have also been increases in paper costs, ink and every other business expense.

At the same time, we have expanded the coverage of the Hood County News where it has more pages, with more content and color. We have a new web site that has reoccurring updates so our subscribers can get information on breaking news between our regular editions. We have expanded our coverage to all of Hood County and our focus is on objective, factual reporting on issues and events. We are offering considerably more value than ever before.

With this all being said, effective April 15, the Hood County News will increase its subscription rates to the following:

2 years (both online and home delivery) — $125 (just .60 an issue and 40% off the newsstand price)

1 year (both online and home delivery) — $65 (just .62.5 an issue and 37.5% off the newsstand price)

1 year (online only) — $50 (less than .14 a day)

1 month (online) $14.95

These prices are necessary for the HCN to be able to continue to provide the same high-quality coverage, photos, and service to which you have now grown accustomed. As publisher, I pledge to you our TEAM will continue to work to become the best community newspaper in Texas!

We want your readership and appreciate your patronage and support. I hope you will agree with me we are still the best value in town. Thank you so much for letting the HCN be part of your community!

Thought for the day: Price is what you pay for, value is what you get!

Until next time….
