Library is home for mural of remembrance

Posted

Gloria Lee Hood is a Granbury artist and publisher for The Eyes of Texas Fine Art Gallery art magazine.

The Hood County Library, 222 North Travis St., has much to offer the community including the addition of approximately 10,000 square feet of space added during a much-needed renovation.

The library now boasts an inviting young adult / teen reading area complete with computer stations and casual seating. It’s an inviting environment to spark reading and conversation. And in this creative space there is a spectacular floor-to-ceiling wall mural painted by local artist Reagan Deming.

Deming is no stranger to creating murals. Previously, she painted a beautiful mural inside the Lake View Inn, 1451 E. Pearl St., depicting Granbury and its many attractions, which was shared in an earlier Hood County News article.

For the mural at the library, Deming was commissioned by an anonymous donor who desired a mural that would share the adventure and joy found in reading and include some favorite titles, both fiction and non-fiction. The mural is a sight to see in its entirety with a magical floating tree focal point surround by an intense coloring of clouds, a majestic waterfall and a pathway of floating rocks. It is both imaginative and fantastical.

And there is much to marvel at in the details such as a sign post that reads “Not all those who wander are lost,” and a collection of painted books in classic and current young adult titles. Anyone with a passion for art and reading should stop by the library to view this extraordinary mural.

ART IS ALIVE

Congratulations to two of our Granbury artists, Kay Wirz and Barbara Doberenz, who have been accepted into the 23rdannual Rio Brazos Juried Exhibition sponsored by the Fine Arts Department of Tarleton State University. It’s being held at the Dora Lee Langdon Cultural & Educational Center Concert Hall building, 308 E. Pearl St., in Granbury,  through May 2, 2021. It began Saturday.

This is a national show that had more than 430 submissions from across the country, of which only 50 pieces were selected by curating juror Diane Durant, who is an artist, educator and writer. A total of 41 artists will be exhibited in the show, many from Texas, and as far away as New York and California. The works on display are contemporary, diverse, and represent a variety of media.

Both Wirz and Doberenz are featured artists in The Eyes of Texas Fine Art Gallery publication, and will also be exhibiting works along with 19 other artists in the Eyes on Art show at Barons Creek Vineyards, 115 E. Bridge St., on the Granbury Square. The show opens April 17 and runs through June 13. Art may be viewed seven days a week during their hours of operation, for the duration of this wonderful 57-day show.

April is blooming as a month of art in Granbury! Be sure to enjoy the Granbury Wine Walk Experience, April 23-25. Mark your calendar for an exciting three days of finding not only a wonderful variety of flavorful wines but also an exciting variety of creative art works with opportunities to meet the artists.

The Lake Granbury Art Association (LGAA) members donate much time in setting up artworks on display for all to enjoy during the Wine Walk. It is an art trail not to be missed!
