Posted

Young team roper Jake Dollander is making a name for himself.

Dollander, 17, a Hood County native and upcoming Tolar High School senior, competes at the adult level against experienced ropers who have participated in places such as Las Vegas.

He and his partner Lain Lafountain of Alvarado shined in the state finals last week in Abilene.

They won first in the 2.5 Team Roping Finals, beat-ing out over 600 teams from Texas and Oklahoma.

Dollander also took third place in the 2.0 class with his partner Roy Vernon of Stephenville, competing against 1,111 teams.

Dollander won a new horse trailer, buckle and over $12,000 in prize money.

Dollander, who works at NRS in Granbury, team ropes in three high school districts: Saginaw, Graham and Alvarado. He was the high-point winner for the Alvarado district.
