GHS softball starts district with Timberview blowout

Posted

It wasn’t the cleanest game, but the Granbury Lady Pirates started off District 5-5A play with a 12-3 at Mansfield Timberview Tuesday.

Granbury was credited with four errors and Timberview with eight. All three runs scored by Timberview came in the bottom of the first inning, and none were earned.

But pitcher Alison Cooper didn’t let the three unearned runs stop her from earning the win. Cooper struck out 13 batters and allowed just four hits and four walks.

At the plate, Rayli Ruby went 3-4 with a walk and scored five times. Lillian Williams was 1-2 with two RBI and Makayla Woody drove in three runs.

Granbury took the lead for good in the top of the third on a Woody single that scored Williams and Brianna Venable. The Lady Pirates would tack on five more runs in the top of the fourth for good measure.

Granbury is ranked No. 11 in the most recent Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A poll. The Lady Pirates are hosting the Pirate Softball Tournament this weekend, and will play Burleson Centennial at home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
