Granbury rallies, beats Mansfield Legacy
Through one set at Mansfield Legacy Tuesday night, nothing was going right for the Granbury Lady Pirates.
“All of the basics of volleyball, we were just forgetting,” said head coach Desiree Shahan.
But Granbury found its footing, sweeping the next three sets to win 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21) and keep an undefeated District 5-5A record alive.
Macie Blohowiak paced the Lady Pirates with 15 kills, two more than Courtney Smith and Payton Bell. Bell tied for the team-high in digs with 26 along with Kaitlyn McCabe.
Savannah Smith had three aces, 22 assists and 20 digs. LoLo Schroeder had 23 assists and 16 digs.
The Lady Pirates weren’t at their best, but they found a way to win against a Legacy team that entered as the third-place team in the district.
“They were letting their anxiety run the game, and they were frantically playing instead of playing our calm game,” Shahan said. “So that was our focus, and the second game was – fix that. Breathe.”
Granbury played at Burleson Centennial Friday, and will host Crowley Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
